Plans for a global energy showcase stretching from Bridge of Don to Peterhead are about to take shape.
Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Forum has appointed a consultant to produce a masterplan for the Energetica concept.
It would see a 30-mile corridor becoming home to a "critical mass" of energy-related companies.
One of the UK's foremost environmental design firms - Gillespies - has been appointed to develop the masterplan, which would identify land for business use as well for educational, retail, residential and leisure use.
It would influence the Aberdeen City and Shire Structure Plan, a development blueprint for the next 25 years.
ACSEF development manager Rita Stephen said: "Energetica would secure Aberdeen City and Shire's position as a global energy hub well into the future."
The A90 corridor to the north of the city already contains the Aberdeen Science and Energy Park, the Aberdeen University OceanLab, oil and gas supply companies in Ellon and Peterhead, Peterhead Port and Peterhead Power Station. There are also plans for an energy-from-waste plant at Peterhead.
Donald Trump's £1 billion golf resort plan is another attraction.
The aim is to create a "technology lifestyle community" along the A90 corridor, with innovative transport links showcasing the latest low carbon technologies.
Energetica could rival similar developments around the world such as Sophia Antipolis in France and The Woodlands in Texas. |
